I guess I’ve been in the church a while (read: my whole life) because whenever I hear the word “first” my mind automatically quotes scripture: The last shall be first, he was the first born of his brethren (yeah, I’ve been in the church that long, my brain quotes the KJV).
The Bible is full of “first.” The most significant is God is the first god to sacrifice His own Son to save the whole world. When I look at other religions I see a lot of firsts as far as the compassion of Christ. He loves people who are not the accepted of society, and while I’ve found other religions that allude to that, this was a pretty radical notion at the time. Still is.
We can be the same. We can reach out to the downtrodden, the outcast, the victim. We can love, because He first loved us.
Linking up with Five Minute Friday.
As a not so much aside…I have another blog now, devoted to my experiment on eating organic while impoverished. Yeah, there’s a tagline to get you interested. lol. Anyway, it’s called, for the moment, cleaneatingexperimentdotcom. (Hey, WordPress named it.) Check out the first entry here if you like.
Yes, the Bible is full of firsts and I particularly love this one: “We can love, because He first loved us.” Amen! Thanks for sharing. Visiting from #FMF Have a blessed weekend! 🙂
I love Jesus’ example of caring for those who were looked down on or not accepted by others and that we are able to love in the same way because he first loved us.
